We collect the minimum data we need to run French Pursuit and provide our services. This page explains what we collect, why, who else touches it, and what you can do about it. It is written in plain language.

French Pursuit is operated from outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Because services are offered to individuals in the EU, this policy is written to comply with GDPR.

WHAT WE COLLECT, AND WHY

When you write to us from the Contact page

Data: your name, email address, and the content of your message.
Purpose: to reply to you.
Legal basis: legitimate interest.

When you buy a 1:1 lesson package

Data: name, email, and payment details (handled by PayPal, Airwallex or Wise).
Purpose: to deliver the lessons, process payment, and keep accounting records.
Legal basis: contract and legal obligation.

When you subscribe to Weekly French on WhatsApp

Data: name, email, WhatsApp phone number, payment details (via PayPal, Airwallex or Wise).
Purpose: to deliver the subscription and process payment.
Legal basis: contract.

When you buy a podcast transcript

Data: name, email, payment details (via PayPal, Airwallex or Wise).
Purpose: to deliver the transcript and process payment.
Legal basis: contract.

When you download the free podcast transcript

Data: your email address.
Purpose: to send you the free transcript and, if you consented at signup, occasional marketing emails about French Pursuit.
Legal basis: consent.
You can unsubscribe from every marketing email we send.

When you visit the website

Data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, referring URL, and technical data Wix collects for analytics.
Purpose: to understand which pages are useful and to keep the site working.
Legal basis: legitimate interest, and consent for non-essential cookies.

WHO WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION WITH

We share data only with the services we need to run French Pursuit:

Wix — website hosting, forms, analytics.
PayPal, Airwallex, Wise — payment processing.
WhatsApp (Meta) — the messaging community.
[YOUR EMAIL SERVICE, e.g. Mailchimp] — email delivery and lead magnet.

Each of these is bound by its own data protection obligations. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers.

ABOUT WHATSAPP — PLEASE READ

The Weekly French on WhatsApp community operates through WhatsApp's Community feature, which contains multiple groups (beginner, intermediate).

Important: in WhatsApp groups, your phone number and display name are visible to other members of the same group. This is how WhatsApp works — we do not control this.

By subscribing to the community, you consent to your phone number being visible to other members of the group or groups you join. You confirm this explicitly at signup.

If you would rather your number not be visible to other subscribers, please do not subscribe to the community — but write to us and we can arrange a private alternative.

WHERE YOUR DATA IS STORED

Some of the services we use store data outside the EEA. Wix, PayPal, and Meta operate global infrastructure with data centres in multiple regions.

We operate from Asia (GMT+8) and access your data from there.

Any transfer of your data outside the EEA is protected by the safeguards required under GDPR — Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision where applicable.

HOW LONG WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION

Contact and email exchanges — up to 3 years.
Student records (bookings, purchases) — up to 10 years, for accounting purposes.
Newsletter list — until you unsubscribe.
Website analytics — per Wix's retention policy (typically 26 months).

YOUR RIGHTS UNDER GDPR

You have the right to:

Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Rectify — correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
Erase — request deletion ("right to be forgotten").
Restrict — limit how we process your data.
